Nesta sexta-feira, 9 de outubro, foi realizada a transmissão do cargo de procurador-geral de Justiça de Minas Gerais. A chefia do Ministério Público de Minas Gerais (MPMG), até então exercida pelo promotor de Justiça Paulo de Tarso Morais Filho, foi assumida pelo procurador de Justiça Carlos Augusto Canêdo Gonçalves da Silva.
Conforme estabelece a Lei Complementar nº 34/1994, o procurador-geral de Justiça candidato à recondução deve se afastar do cargo até 30 dias antes da eleição interna, marcada para 10 de novembro. Paulo de Tarso poderá retornar à chefia do MPMG no primeiro dia útil após a apuração dos votos.
Além de Canêdo, assinaram o termo de posse o corregedor-geral do MPMG, Mário Drummond da Rocha, e Paulo de Tarso.
O novo procurador-geral de Justiça destacou, em seu discurso, a importância de instituições sólidas e permanentes, como o Ministério Público, para manter a sociedade coesa e disse se sentir honrado em assumir o cargo.
Carlos Augusto Canêdo se formou em Direito pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, em 1982. Fez mestrado e doutorado em Direito Penal e tem pós-doutorado pela Universidade de Barcelona. É professor titular do curso de Direito da UFMG desde 1996 e foi professor adjunto da PUC Minas durante 28 anos. Ele ingressou no Ministério Público mineiro por meio de concurso público em outubro de 1984. Sua experiência têm ênfase nas áreas do Direito Público, Direito Penal e Direito Internacional.
O novo PGJ é o segundo membro mais antigo da Câmara dos Procuradores de Justiça do MPMG. O membro mais antigo é o atual corregedor-geral, Mário Drummond da Rocha, que, por ocupar cargo da Administração Superior, está impedido de substituir o chefe da instituição.

Eleição
Neste ano, concorrem ao cargo quatro candidatos (em ordem alfabética): o promotor de Justiça Carlos Eduardo Ferreira Pinto, o procurador de Justiça José Carlos Fernandes Júnior, a promotora de Justiça Larissa Rodrigues Amaral e o promotor de Justiça Paulo de Tarso Morais Filho, que tenta a recondução.
Os três nomes mais votados serão encaminhados ao governador de Minas Gerais, Mateus Simões, que terá prazo de 15 dias para fazer a sua escolha e a nomeação.
